A Christchurch electrical and civil contractor wants an Electrical Distribution Cable Jointer on a permanent, full-time basis. The company is locally owned and adding to its distribution team.
The job is direct, from building joints and terminations to installing and proving underground networks, repair faults and help commission new work, with safety and good workmanship first.
Overseas jointers are welcome to apply as long as they are suitably qualified, because this is an Accredited Employer that can sponsor AEWV applicants. Applicants must be a New Zealand citizen or resident, hold a valid open work visa, or meet the Accredited Employer Work Visa requirements.

Key Responsibilities
- Take charge of LV and HV cable jointing and terminating
- Underground distribution cable installation, with testing and commissioning to follow
- Work on PILC and XLPE cable, plus other distribution cable systems, jointing and terminating each
- Connect up the distribution pillars, kiosks, RMUs and transformers that the network relies on
- Find the cause of cable faults, fix them and take part in emergency restoration
- Lend a hand on conversions from overhead to underground
- Verify cable condition through testing, then commission the network, and operate safely around both live and de-energised parts of the electrical distribution network, and deliver work to a high standard of quality, safety and compliance
Requirements & Eligibility
- Qualification: New Zealand Certificate in Electrical Supply (Cable Jointer) Level 4, or another recognised qualification that is equivalent
- Current NZ electrical registration (EWRB) and practising licence
- Hands-on, proven experience of electrical distribution cable jointing, along with underground network construction
- Sound working knowledge of safety procedures for electrical distribution, plus industry regulations
- Holds a current Class 1 NZ driver licence; Class 2 is preferred
- Overseas applicants must bring a recognised cable jointer qualification at NZ standard and at least two years' experience in a qualified electrical distribution cable jointer role. Overseas applicants must complete any qualification assessments and registration requirements before employment can be offered
