Cookie Policy

Last updated: 3 October 2026

Good news first: NaijaAbroad sets no cookies of its own and uses no analytics, advertising or tracking tools. This page lists the small amount of browser storage involved and the outside services that load on our pages.

1. Cookies and browser storage

In short: small bits of data a website can keep in your browser.

Cookies are small text files a website can save on your device and read back later. Browsers also offer other places to keep data, such as sessionStorage (cleared when you close the tab), localStorage and IndexedDB (kept until removed). This policy covers all of them.

2. What this site uses

In short: one technical value for visitors, a little more for staff.

For every visitor

  • No cookies are set by NaijaAbroad itself.
  • chunk_reload_at in sessionStorage: a timestamp that lets the page reload itself once if we updated the site while you had it open. It identifies no one and disappears when you close the tab.

For staff only

  • On the private admin page, Firebase Authentication (Google) keeps the staff sign-in session in the browser (IndexedDB or local storage).
  • It also remembers, in localStorage, the email address used for email-link sign-in.

Visitors who never open the admin page never get these.

What we do not store

  • No record of the jobs you viewed or searched for. Your filters live in the page address, which you can see, bookmark or share.
  • No identifiers that follow you from one visit to the next.
  • Nothing that links your browsing to an application you email us.

3. Third-party services

In short: a few outside services load content, and some only act when you click.

  • Google Fonts: our fonts load from Google's servers, so Google receives your IP address and browser details.
  • YouTube thumbnails: video preview images load from Google's image servers (i.ytimg.com).
  • YouTube player: the video player loads from youtube-nocookie.com only after you press play. From then on, YouTube may store data on your device under Google's policies.
  • Share buttons and WhatsApp links: the WhatsApp, Facebook and LinkedIn buttons on articles, and our WhatsApp chat and channel links, send nothing until you click them.

Each of these services handles data under its own privacy and cookie policies.

4. No analytics or ads

In short: nothing tracks you here, so there is no cookie banner.

We run no analytics, advertising pixels or tracking tools. Because there are no such cookies to accept or refuse, you will not see a cookie banner on NaijaAbroad.

5. Your controls

In short: your browser settings are in charge.

  • Most browsers let you block or delete cookies and site data in their privacy settings.
  • A private or incognito window clears storage when you close it.
  • Browser add-ons that block fonts or embedded content will also work. If Google Fonts is blocked, the site simply falls back to a standard font.
  • If you would rather YouTube stored nothing, just do not press play; the thumbnails alone do not start the player.
  • Blocking storage does not stop the public site working. Only staff sign-in to the admin area needs it.

6. Changes

In short: if we add anything, this page will say so.

If the site starts using new cookies or storage, we will update this page and its date. Our Privacy Policy covers how we handle personal data more broadly.
