Experienced bar leaders, take note. A leading rooftop bar in Christchurch, New Zealand is hiring a Duty Manager on a permanent, full-time basis, and it wants someone ready to lead from day one.
The venue is in its sixth year and runs Tuesday to Sunday with full table service and a menu of share plates and seasonal dishes. Monday is reserved for functions, training, cocktail competitions and presentation work.
Expect a 30-hour minimum contract, rotating closes, and evening and weekend shifts with no flexibility on Friday and Saturday evenings. Pay is $28 to $32 per hour. Sponsorship is available for the right candidate, and the business can take someone on immediately. Committed people get consistent training and real growth inside the company.

Key Responsibilities
- Greet guests, manage reservations and respond to customer enquiries
- Handle order taking, upselling and payments while keeping customers satisfied
- Lead the team from the front and build a positive staff culture through front-of-house training
- Act as the point of contact for functions
- Hold front-of-house costs, overheads and the roster to KPIs and targets
- Run stock ordering, the monthly stocktake and standard opening and closing procedures
- Keep the environment safe and healthy, meet all legal obligations and contribute to new menus (drinks, recipes, costings, marketing)
Requirements & Eligibility
- Minimum of three years' bar experience
- Hands-on experience with high-volume cocktails
- Valid LCQ together with a current Duty Managers Certificate
- Warm, welcoming nature and a positive attitude
- Drive to succeed, ambition to grow and develop, and passion for the industry
- Commitment to evening and weekend work, including Friday and Saturday evenings (non negotiable)
