Here is the deal. A Christchurch water maintenance crew wants a Water Reticulation Operator on contract, and the door is open to applicants from every background. If you can handle heavy machinery safely and hard outdoor work does not scare you, read on.
This is real field work. You will operate excavators, pumps and small plant close to underground services and live water infrastructure, keeping an essential network in good order. No previous reticulation background? Not a problem. Strong civil or trade experience is welcome as long as you are reliable, practical, focused on safety and ready to learn. Key Responsibilities
- Operate excavators, pumps, small plant and other equipment, working safely near underground services and live water infrastructure.
- Deliver maintenance across the water network and troubleshoot faults.
- Install, repair and replace water pipes and associated components.
- Protect drinking-water quality whenever maintenance or repairs are carried out.
- Cover on-call and after-hours duties and get every job done safely to a high standard.
Requirements & Eligibility
- Someone who enjoys physical, outdoor work and gets stuck in.
- Confident with tools and machinery, comfortable troubleshooting faults and committed to safe, high-quality results.
- Safe and competent on excavators, diggers and other small plant.
- Experience with compaction equipment, pumps and water-related machinery.
- Understanding of water mains, service connections, valves, hydrants and fittings.
- Ability to install, repair and replace water pipes and associated components.
- Understanding of drinking-water quality protection procedures during maintenance and repairs, plus the ability to interpret network plans, drawings and underground service information.
- Ideally, a Class 1 Driver Licence.
- Desirable: a positive, can-do attitude.
- Ideally, a strong work ethic with a willingness to learn.
- Desirable: good practical and problem-solving skills.
- Ideally, able to work well alone or within a team.
- Desirable: a strong commitment to health and safety.
