This is a hands-on trade job for a proven diesel mechanic. A pastoral company operating several cattle stations in remote northern Western Australia wants two mechanics, and the vacancy is listed under Broome, WA. You will be based out on the stations, not in a city workshop.
Your work covers vehicles, trucks, motorbikes and station machinery: planned servicing, repairs, callouts and keeping parts organised. You will also supervise station staff on routine checks.
Be clear on the conditions. The climate is extreme, hot and humid. Alcohol and drug testing may be done from time to time and intoxication is not tolerated. Key Responsibilities
- Complete scheduled maintenance and services on vehicles and machinery
- Repair faults on vehicles and machinery
- Respond quickly to problems and callouts
- Operate machinery and tools safely, supervising station staff and training them on daily checks and services
- Record parts used for reordering and keep commonly used parts stocked
Requirements & Eligibility
- Trade qualified in Diesel / Heavy Vehicle Mechanics and at least 2 years' experience
- Mechanic experience in a similar role, with genuine passion for station life
- Safe operation of diagnostic and test equipment across the fleet, and confident, efficient, safe use of tools and equipment
- C Class driver's licence (essential)
- Motorcycle licence, HR or MC licence would be an advantage
- Works independently and in a team in a remote location, and develops innovative solutions when parts or tools are not readily available
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, good communication and a positive attitude would be an advantage
- Fit to handle high temperatures and high humidity
