Care Assistant

This is a residential aged care position in Australia. Providers are recruiting reliable Aged Care Workers and Personal Care Assistants with suitable qualifications to support residents in professional care environments.

The work centres on helping older people through their everyday activities, with constant attention to dignity, independence, safety, comfort and quality of life.

To be considered, you must be able to show the right combination of qualifications, practical care experience, communication skills and professional conduct. Your credentials and background can be assessed so that you are matched with aged care providers that fit your experience and capabilities. Key Responsibilities

  • Follow each resident's individual care plan along with the facility's workplace procedures
  • Watch residents closely and report any change in their physical, emotional or behavioural wellbeing
  • Keep care notes, records and other documentation accurate and up to date
  • Apply infection control, manual handling and workplace safety procedures on every shift
  • Provide care that is respectful, compassionate and centred on the individual
  • Help with hygiene tasks such as showering, toileting, dressing and grooming
  • Assist residents to move and transfer, using mobility equipment correctly
  • Look after meals, hydration and any feeding requirements
  • Give companionship and emotional support, and help residents with daily routines and meaningful activities
  • Encourage independence and participation in everyday activities
  • Protect residents' privacy and dignity while respecting their cultural considerations and personal preferences
  • Communicate clearly with nurses, carers, allied health professionals and families, and help keep the care environment safe, supportive and respectful

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Willingness to undergo the required police checks, screening and health assessments
  • A relevant qualification in aged care, healthcare, personal care or nursing assistance
  • Experience in aged care, residential care or disability support is preferred
  • A practical grasp of the principles of person-centred care
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • A good level of English for communicating with residents and in the workplace
  • A reliable, compassionate and professional approach to the work
  • The ability to form respectful relationships with residents and care teams and to stick to care plans, procedures and workplace standards
  • Flexibility to cover different shifts, weekends included when required
  • Offshore applicants may be considered for employer sponsorship, subject to eligibility
