Workshop Technician

Straight to the point: a verified employer in engineering and metal fabrication needs an experienced Fitter and CNC Machine Operator for this hands-on Workshop Technician position.
This is not a narrow machine-minding job. You will run CNC machines, but you will also handle fitting, assembly, fabrication and day-to-day job coordination. You must be able to read engineering drawings confidently, identify what has to be manufactured, plan the work and make sure completed items are properly prepared for installation.
The employer wants someone who will own workshop jobs and keep production organised, accurate and on schedule. Remember that a genuine employer will never ask you to pay for a job offer.
Key Responsibilities
- Keep high standards of cleanliness, quality and safety
- Go through engineering drawings and job specifications
- Determine materials, dimensions, tolerances and what assembly is required
- Coordinate workshop jobs and set production priorities
- Operate CNC and general metal fabrication machines
- Carry out fitting, assembly and fabrication work to the required specifications
- Weld with basic MIG and TIG when the job calls for it
- Inspect finished components and measure them for accuracy
- Prepare fabricated items and materials for installation on site
- Confirm site teams get the correct components, fasteners and required materials
- Catch fabrication problems and deal with them before dispatch
- Communicate well with workshop and site personnel
- Maintain workshop equipment and machinery, and push for safe, organised and efficient workshop practices
- Go out to installation sites occasionally to assist with fitting
Requirements & Eligibility
- Available to start immediately or nearly immediately
- Strong background in metal fabrication, engineering or workshop operations
- Hands-on experience operating CNC machinery
- Can read and interpret engineering drawings without close supervision
- Strong experience in fitting and assembly
- Has coordinated workshop jobs or taken responsibility for them
- Basic MIG and TIG welding skills
- Excellent at measuring, with close attention to detail
- Understands fabrication processes and work sequencing
- Can operate common fabrication machinery and engineering tools
- A strong practical problem-solver who manages priorities and works independently
- A good communicator and team player, committed to quality, safety and accurate workmanship
- Experience with CNC laser cutting, tube laser cutting, press brakes, drilling or grinding equipment will be highly regarded
