Underground Heavy Diesel Fitter

Trade · Sydney NSW, Australia · Full-Time · $59/hr

Heavy machinery experience is what this role is built on. Qualified mechanics and fitters are being recruited for underground mining work in NSW, and the focus is on what you can prove, not simply on where you have worked.

Relevant backgrounds include agricultural machinery, earthmoving, civil construction, quarrying, heavy vehicles and mining. You will need to show genuine practical experience with heavy equipment: diagnosing faults, completing repairs and keeping complex mechanical systems running safely and efficiently.

The jobs are residential. There is no FIFO arrangement; you live and work in a regional NSW community, and site rosters vary, with options designed for regular time at home. Whether you are applying from Nigeria or elsewhere, keep your trade certificates and employment records ready, because evidence counts here.

Key Responsibilities

  • Respond when equipment breaks down and restore it safely to operational condition
  • Service and maintain heavy mobile plant in demanding conditions, including underground loaders, haul trucks, drills and other specialised machinery
  • Diagnose engine, hydraulic, transmission, driveline and braking system faults, working from technical manuals, drawings and hydraulic schematics
  • Carry out mechanical repairs, component replacements, major change-outs, rebuilds and overhauls
  • Inspect machines to spot mechanical problems before they become major failures
  • Complete scheduled preventive maintenance as the site requires
  • Keep written records of repairs, servicing, defects and maintenance activity
  • Report equipment problems and maintenance needs to supervisors
  • Carry out pre-start checks and comply with site isolation and permit procedures
  • Operate safely as a member of the maintenance team in a high-risk setting

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Hold a current driver's licence
  • Recognised trade qualification, for example Certificate III or equivalent in Diesel Fitting, Heavy Vehicle Mechanics, Plant Mechanics or Agricultural Mechanics
  • Proven practical experience repairing and maintaining heavy machinery, backed by a genuine employment history that shows relevant mechanical duties
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting ability, with working knowledge of hydraulics, engines, transmissions, drivelines and braking systems
  • Underground mining experience: beneficial but not mandatory
  • Time on Caterpillar, Sandvik or Epiroc equipment is highly regarded
  • Applicants whose heavy-equipment experience comes from agriculture, earthmoving, civil, quarrying or heavy transport will be considered
  • Ability to work rostered shifts and adjust to residential mining life
  • Clear communication and the ability to work well in a crew
  • Able to work on your own while sticking to established safety procedures
  • Willing to learn unfamiliar machinery and underground mining practices
  • Additional qualifications in first aid, confined space, working at heights or mining are advantageous
  • Willingness to complete pre-employment medical and functional assessments, plus the ability to meet drug and alcohol testing and National Police Check requirements
  • Evidence to support your qualifications and relevant work experience
  • Visa sponsorship available to eligible candidates
