A leading healthcare support organisation in Canterbury, New Zealand, is hiring Support Workers to deliver care in community, residential and healthcare settings throughout the region.

What the work involves: helping people with daily activities, community participation, wellbeing goals and personal development. You will move between mental health, disability support, community care and healthcare environments, which gives you diverse experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work within care plans, workplace procedures and health and safety rules
  • Record information accurately and keep healthcare teams informed through clear communication
  • Support people in community, residential and healthcare settings with compassion, adapting to a range of healthcare and community environments
  • Help clients manage daily living tasks, take part in community life, work towards personal goals and maintain meaningful lifestyles
  • Assist people living with disabilities, mental health needs or complex care requirements
  • Respond calmly and professionally to challenging situations and behavioural support needs
  • Form respectful, positive relationships with service users, their families and wider support networks
  • Uphold each client's independence, dignity, wellbeing and inclusion, providing reliable person-centred care to professional standards

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Minimum 6 months' experience in a Disability Support Worker, Community Support Worker, Mental Health Assistant, Healthcare Assistant or similar position
  • Full New Zealand Driver's Licence and the confidence to drive service vehicles where required
  • Ability to commit to regular shifts, meet safe working hour requirements and manage your availability responsibly and reliably
  • Flexibility to cover a variety of shifts, weekends included when required
  • Strong communication skills, a caring, respectful and professional approach, and the ability to keep calm and effective under challenging situations
  • Dedication to high-quality person-centred support, with the ability to work in different community, disability, mental health and healthcare settings
  • Experience supporting people with complex needs, disabilities or mental health requirements is highly regarded
