Spray Painter & Paintshop Prepper Assistant

Permanent, full-time roles are open for an experienced Automotive Spray Painter and a Paintshop Prepper / Assistant in New Zealand. The employer will judge your refinishing skills on real experience, demonstrated ability and reliability, not talk.

The Spray Painter must turn out consistent, high-quality finishes, match colours accurately and refinish efficiently. The Prepper / Assistant role fits someone with preparation experience, or a motivated person ready to build trade skills with a possible path towards an apprenticeship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepper / Assistant – get vehicles, panels and surfaces ready for refinishing, handling sanding, masking, priming and other surface preparation
  • Prepper / Assistant – back up the Spray Painters in daily workshop operations and keep paintshop workflow efficient
  • Prepper / Assistant – keep tools, equipment and work areas clean and organised and take on general paintshop duties as required
  • Prepper / Assistant – gain practical knowledge of automotive refinishing and develop technical skills hands-on, working towards potential apprenticeship or career progression opportunities
  • Spray Painter – handle automotive spray painting and refinishing, including colour matching and blending
  • Spray Painter – prepare vehicles and panels for a professional finish and complete every preparation and painting stage with strong attention to detail
  • Spray Painter – produce consistent, high-quality finishes and inspect completed work to confirm required quality standards are met
  • Spray Painter – meet workshop production deadlines efficiently while working independently and supporting team productivity
  • Spray Painter – keep the paintshop tidy and in order and comply with workplace health, safety and quality procedures

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Spray Painter applicants need proven automotive spray painting experience
  • Demonstrated colour-matching and refinishing ability
  • Able to deliver professional, consistent finishes
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Relevant background in automotive preparation and refinishing processes
  • For Prepper / Assistant applicants, previous paint preparation experience is advantageous
  • Sanding, masking and priming knowledge is beneficial
  • Capable of working efficiently to production deadlines
  • Reliable, punctual and self-motivated
  • Strong work ethic, positive attitude and the ability to work well within a team
  • Willing to learn and pick up new technical skills
  • Candidates must demonstrate genuine, relevant work experience
  • Overseas applicants must satisfy the applicable New Zealand employment and visa requirements; sponsorship is on offer for suitably qualified candidates from overseas
