Sous Chef

An experienced Chef de Partie or emerging Sous Chef is needed for a fresh, energetic food operation in South Australia.
The facts: 38 hours across five days, predominantly morning and lunch service, and most shifts finish around 3:30pm. The venue serves a mix of deli, café and sandwich-style food. You will work closely with the Head Chef and, when needed, take charge of the kitchen and its decisions during service, so this is for someone who likes ownership and can work independently.

Key Responsibilities
- Meet all food safety and hygiene requirements
- Keep the kitchen clean, organised and ready for service at all times
- Complete mise en place and preparation before each service
- Cook and prepare food according to established recipes and quality standards
- Hold flavour, portion sizes and presentation consistent
- Prepare food efficiently and present it to a high standard
- Back the Head Chef in running smooth daily kitchen operations
- Step up and take ownership of service when required, managing your section with minimal supervision
- Help with kitchen ordering and stock management, tracking ingredient usage to reduce food wastage
- Bring ideas for specials, dishes and improvements in the kitchen
- Work calmly and efficiently when it gets busy
- Keep communication clear with the Head Chef and kitchen team
- Support team members who have less experience where required
- Take responsibility for high standards right through service
Requirements & Eligibility
- Willing to complete the required 6-month trial period and committed to full-time employment
- Previous experience as a Chef de Partie, Sous Chef or similar role, with commercial kitchen experience in a café, restaurant, bistro, deli or comparable environment
- Strong cooking, preparation and kitchen organisation skills, and able to confidently operate a kitchen section independently
- Demonstrated ability to follow recipes and produce consistent results
- Strong attention to food quality, presentation and detail, and stays organised and composed in busy services
- Reliable, dependable, and strong in communication and teamwork
- Positive attitude and willing to take responsibility
- Leadership potential, with the confidence to make decisions when required
- Relevant culinary qualifications are advantageous
