Restaurant Manager

A permanent full-time Restaurant Manager role is open in Christchurch, New Zealand. The employer needs a hospitality professional with genuine leadership experience: someone who will answer for the performance, development and consistency of a busy front-of-house operation, not just manage a shift.

You will be the key link between the management team, hospitality staff and guests. Your job is to make service standards clear, keep the team supported and see that every customer gets a consistent experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure liquor is served responsibly and applicable requirements are complied with
  • Be accountable for the overall performance of front-of-house operations
  • Lead and support a diverse team made up of local and international hospitality staff
  • Coach and develop staff to raise service quality and workplace performance, tracking how the team performs and giving constructive feedback
  • Lay down clear standards for customer service and operations
  • Supervise opening and closing procedures
  • Carry out daily cash-up and financial handling procedures correctly
  • Manage reservations, coordinate bookings and control guest flow so service stays efficient at peak times
  • Assist management with staff scheduling and rosters
  • Keep Directors and General Management clearly informed
  • Apply workplace policies and operational procedures without inconsistency
  • Identify service issues and take the right action to resolve them
  • Build positive relationships with guests to encourage repeat business, and support initiatives that grow customer satisfaction and revenue
  • Maintain a professional, positive workplace and work with management to improve operational efficiency and consistency

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Minimum 2 years' experience in restaurant management or an equivalent senior hospitality role, including demonstrated front-of-house management
  • Proven ability to lead, train and develop hospitality staff
  • Strong understanding of busy restaurants running multiple sittings
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a mature and professional approach to managing people
  • Strong customer service and relationship-building ability, backed by working knowledge of hospitality service standards
  • Sound understanding of liquor service and licensing compliance
  • Able to manage guest flow effectively when trading is busy
  • Strong organisational and decision-making skills, and the ability to stay calm and effective under pressure
  • Willing to learn venue-specific products, systems and procedures
  • Flexible availability for evenings and weekends; must be able to work a minimum of 30 hours per week across 5 days
  • Genuine, verifiable hospitality employment experience; candidates must be able to provide appropriate information or documentation supporting their professional background where required.
