Operations Manager

Experienced technical professional? A senior operations position is available in New Zealand, leading field delivery across multiple sites.
This is a hands-on leadership job. You will organise people and resources, manage performance, protect compliance and get directly involved where technical oversight is required. Leaders in this space earn respect through the standards they enforce, the teams they develop and the quality of their decisions, so judgement, commercial awareness, practical background and the ability to lead consistently across locations are all being assessed. Key Responsibilities
- Set and enforce a strong health and safety culture for everyone in the field
- Manage technical operations at multiple sites each day and lead a team spread across a wide area
- Match staff and resources to scheduled compliance and inspection work
- Keep technical quality, safety and service delivery consistent
- Track how well the team is utilised, what each job earns and what work remains in progress
- Judge capability and give each assignment to an inspector with the right experience
- Control authorised work scopes and accreditation requirements tightly
- Handle complex or escalated client matters personally and supervise on site when more expertise or capacity is required
- Liaise with the technical services, compliance and finance functions
- Forecast what capability and resources will be needed
- Push for continuous improvement in operational processes and back sustainable growth while technical standards are protected
Requirements & Eligibility
- Must meet applicable New Zealand employment and visa requirements
- Has managed or led a technical or field-based team, including experienced professionals, while keeping standards clear
- Strong technical or trade background from practical work
- Holds a relevant trade, technical or tertiary qualification
- Demonstrated ability to plan and prioritise under pressure
- Understands the commercial side: utilisation, job costing, margins and work in progress
- Sound knowledge of technical scope, authorisation and compliance
- Experience operating under ISO/IEC 17020 or ISO/IEC 17025 is advantageous; electricity distribution or related technical industry experience is also advantageous
- Strong decision-maker, communicator and problem-solver who has managed client relationships and escalated issues
- Full driver's licence
- Willing to travel between sites when required
