Wanted: a Senior Mining Engineer for the short-term planning team of an established underground mine in Brisbane QLD. Bring proven technical skill and practical time underground.

Your core task is to take the mine's existing strategy and convert it into plans that are clear and deliverable, keeping production and development safe. You need to know how underground operations really run, and you should be able to put engineering knowledge to work on mine design, drill and blast, production planning and day-to-day operational problems.

Key Responsibilities

Act as technical lead for the mining engineering team, and mentor its engineers, graduates and cadets
Own the short-term underground plan from first draft to delivery, converting the broader mine strategy into steps operations can execute
Design for development, production and underground infrastructure in mine planning software, producing output that is accurate and practical
Improve sequencing and operational results through sound engineering
Draft and optimise drill and blast designs, and check stope designs against short-term production requirements
Test plans with operational teams to confirm they can be achieved
Flag risks, constraints and areas where planning can improve
Bring development, stoping, services, ventilation and backfill requirements together in one plan, then back production readiness and solid execution
Push for continuous improvement in how mines are planned and designed

Requirements & Eligibility

Tertiary qualification: Mining Engineering or a related field
Minimum 6–8 years of hands-on mining engineering work
Strong record in hard rock underground mining, and good knowledge of underground methods and production processes
Proven background in short-term planning, backed by strong stope design and sequencing knowledge
Demonstrated operational mine design capability, plus strong drill and blast design experience
Has provided technical leadership or mentored junior engineers
Proficient in Surpac, Vulcan, Datamine, Deswik or similar software
Able to prove your underground mining experience is genuine and verifiable
Strong communicator with analytical and problem-solving skills, able to work across technical and operational teams
