Mechanical Engineer

Mechanical Engineer role in Queenstown Central, Otago, New Zealand, with a well-established engineering consultancy delivering a broad range of mechanical engineering and building services projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work directly with clients and stakeholders to understand requirements, build long-term professional relationships and deliver appropriate engineering outcomes
  • Lead and contribute to mechanical design on building and infrastructure projects across commercial, residential, healthcare, industrial and other developments
  • Produce detailed mechanical designs, calculations, specifications, reports and supporting documents
  • Manage engineering assignments from design and coordination to delivery and completion, monitoring deliverables, deadlines, technical requirements and overall quality
  • Analyse engineering requirements and work out effective technical solutions
  • Integrate mechanical services with the architectural, structural, electrical and other disciplines involved
  • Review technical work for accuracy, quality, safety and compliance
  • Attend design reviews, project meetings, coordination sessions and site inspections as required
  • Provide technical advice and practical engineering support to project teams, and share knowledge that develops other team members
  • Help identify new project opportunities and support business development
  • Maintain professional engineering standards across all project activities, stay engaged with current practice and contribute to continuous improvement

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Mechanical Engineering qualification at tertiary level or a recognised equivalent
  • Substantial professional experience in mechanical building services, industrial engineering or engineering consultancy, with demonstrated delivery of projects from design through to completion
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and design practices, plus proven technical, analytical and problem-solving ability
  • Experience managing projects of varying scope, complexity and delivery requirements, including handling competing priorities and meeting agreed deadlines
  • Strong communication skills for working effectively with clients and project stakeholders
  • Demonstrated record of building and maintaining professional relationships
  • Strong commitment to engineering quality, safety, compliance and practical outcomes
  • Ability to work effectively within a collaborative professional team
  • Commercial awareness and interest in developing client and business opportunities
  • Chartered Professional Engineer status or active progress towards chartership is advantageous
  • Willingness to undergo verification of qualifications, employment history, professional experience and relevant credentials, with a professional attitude, commitment to continuous learning and career development, and values centred on quality, support, flexibility, teamwork and a positive workplace environment
  • Meets the requirements for a suitable New Zealand work visa; sponsorship available for a suitably qualified candidate
