Maintenance Foreperson

Road maintenance supervisors, this one is worth your attention if your experience is real and can be proven. A Maintenance Foreperson is needed in Marlborough, New Zealand to take responsibility for daily road maintenance operations.

You will lead from the front, organise a small crew and manage priorities that change often across a demanding road network. The role includes an on-call roster for incidents and emergency call-outs, including night-time work.

International roading experience that is relevant will be considered. You will be asked for verifiable employment, qualification and experience records, so keep them ready and accurate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be available on the on-call roster when incidents happen or emergency call-outs come in
  • Attend to animal hazards, night-time incidents and any other urgent road problem
  • Organise the response when there is an emergency and get urgent repairs done
  • Head a small crew on the roads, guiding them with practical leadership
  • Draw up the crew's programme for each day and rank maintenance jobs by priority
  • Supervise both scheduled and urgent maintenance on the road network
  • Check the roads for defects, hazards and anything that could become a safety risk
  • Work out what each maintenance problem needs and choose the fix
  • Enter defects and maintenance details into GPS and tablet systems
  • Keep an eye on the standard of work, how the crew performs and what contractors are doing
  • Make sure nothing breaches health, safety or traffic management rules
  • Stay in contact with clients, contractors and operations staff so maintenance programmes are delivered
  • Decide on operational matters by yourself when needed

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Class 2 New Zealand driver's licence or equivalent
  • Records of your employment, qualifications and experience that can be verified
  • A proven track record in civil construction or road maintenance
  • Earlier work in a roading role at supervisor or foreman level
  • Solid knowledge of the materials used to build roads and the techniques used to maintain them
  • Shown ability to direct and organise a small crew
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong at planning, organising and making decisions, and able to work alone when conditions keep changing
  • At ease with tablets, GPS and basic computer systems
  • AWM or RAMM experience is highly advantageous
  • A firm commitment to health and safety at work, plus knowledge of traffic management requirements
  • Stays calm and acts effectively when emergencies happen
  • Relevant roading experience gained internationally will be considered
