Maintenance Fitter

This is a specialist trade role, not a general maintenance job. The client, an established food manufacturing operation in Western Australia, needs a Maintenance Fitter with proven expertise on complex thermoforming and packaging equipment.

Expect to be assessed on what you can actually show: genuine hands-on ability to maintain, troubleshoot and optimise high-speed manufacturing machinery, and practical thermoforming knowledge that can be verified. The equipment is sophisticated, and the plant relies on reliability, precision and fast fault diagnosis.

Candidates who have worked with MULTIVAC thermoforming equipment, particularly R-Series machinery, will be highly regarded. Make sure every claim in your application can be backed up.

Key Responsibilities

Respond without delay to equipment breakdowns and production maintenance requirements
Diagnose and clear mechanical faults on high-speed production lines
Carry out planned preventative work and reactive repairs on thermoforming and packaging machinery
Troubleshoot thermoforming systems, including heating, forming and sealing
Maintain vacuum, compressed air, film feed and tension control systems
Work on servo-driven and automated production equipment
Keep MAP and vacuum packaging operations running
Complete tooling changes and get the best performance out of each machine
Perform line changeovers and adjust equipment as production demands
Get to the root cause of recurring faults through proper investigation
Improve machinery reliability and reduce downtime wherever there is an opportunity
Help install and commission machinery
Coordinate with production and engineering teams to keep output steady
Follow safety and operational procedures on every maintenance job, and contribute to continuous improvement and preventative maintenance programs

Requirements & Eligibility

Current 482 Visa holders are encouraged to apply
Trade qualification as a Maintenance Fitter or Mechanical Tradesperson
Demonstrated background in food manufacturing, packaging, processing or a comparable production environment
Proven hands-on work with thermoforming machinery
Strong knowledge of thermoforming equipment and processes
MULTIVAC experience is highly desirable
Time on MULTIVAC R-Series machines is advantageous
Knowledge of forming stations, heating plates, sealing systems, and cutting and punching equipment
Practical experience with vacuum and compressed air systems
Servo-driven machinery experience
Understanding of how film feed and tension control systems work
MAP or vacuum packaging technology experience will be highly regarded
Strong mechanical fault-finding and diagnostic ability, including tracing the cause of complex equipment failures
Pneumatic and hydraulic systems experience
Ability to work independently and cope with production pressure
Strong safety awareness and preventative maintenance practices, plus good communication and teamwork
Flexibility to cover rotating early and afternoon shifts
