Machinist

Wanted: a First Class Machinist for a Western Australian firm that specialises in engineering and manufacturing. The business is after someone with tested technical ability, real time spent in a workshop and a firm grip on precision work.

You will be expected to work confidently off engineering drawings, set up and run CNC machines, take on manual machining and turn out parts that meet tough standards. A history of supporting mining, energy, marine or defence-related manufacturing counts strongly in your favour. People whose trade background is genuine and checkable are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

Inspect completed parts for accuracy and quality, and track down and fix any machining or equipment faults
Set up, program and run CNC lathes and machining centres according to what each job needs
Work on Okuma or similar CNC machines, applying One-Touch programming where required
Make sense of engineering drawings, specs and machining requirements
Pick the right tooling, materials and machining methods for the work
Use manual lathes and other conventional machines
Produce precision metal parts that match the required specifications
Handle routine machine upkeep and housekeeping so the workshop stays safe and orderly
Stick to set quality and production procedures
Hit production schedules and project requirements by working efficiently

Requirements & Eligibility

Full Australian work rights, or eligible for employer sponsorship
Recognised trade qualification in Metal Machining, or an equivalent
At least 3 years in machining after finishing your trade
Strong hands-on CNC machining background with CNC lathes and machining centres
Okuma experience is highly desirable, and One-Touch programming experience is advantageous
Comfortable reading and making sense of technical drawings
Can prove a genuine, checkable employment and trade history
Strong focus on precision and quality
Forklift LF Class licence preferred; Australian Driver's Licence preferred
Can complete the pre-employment medical requirements
Can complete drug and alcohol screening
