HVAC Service Technician

Waikato-based, established and focused on HVAC and refrigeration services: that is the business behind this vacancy for an experienced HVAC/Refrigeration Service Technician. The person they want can take full responsibility for complex maintenance and service jobs.

Real commercial experience is a must: chillers, central plant, refrigeration and commercial HVAC. Expect to find faults accurately, use what you know with confidence and fix things properly for a range of customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be available for your share of the required after-hours callout roster
  • Carry out inspection, servicing and repairs on commercial refrigeration and air conditioning systems
  • Handle scheduled and preventative maintenance on all HVAC equipment
  • Troubleshoot and look after chilled water central plant, VRF/VRV units and chillers, whether water-cooled or air-cooled
  • Look after process cooling equipment, both chilled water and DX
  • Track down faults in fan motors, compressors, refrigerant circuits and associated components, work out what is wrong and choose the correct fix
  • Install, commission and start up refrigeration and HVAC systems
  • Work from equipment specifications, technical documents and construction drawings
  • Weld and run ACR copper pipework when the job calls for it, and handle evacuation and pressure testing of systems
  • Isolate, disconnect and reconnect electrical supply where authorised
  • Fine-tune and calibrate temperature controls, and work with Building Management System interfaces and HVAC controls
  • Leave every customer site with workmanship that is professional
  • Obey PPE procedures, site-specific safety requirements and Health & Safety standards, and attend site inductions and toolbox meetings, reporting safety issues as needed
  • Treat customers professionally and keep relationships with them positive

Requirements & Eligibility

  • National Certificate in Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning or National Trade Test Certificate Class III Assistant Tradesperson
  • At least 5 years of hands-on chiller and central plant work after qualifying
  • No specified qualification? You may still be considered if you have 8+ years of relevant experience
  • A proven track record in commercial refrigeration and HVAC
  • Working knowledge of VRF/VRV, DX, chillers and chilled water systems
  • Sharp fault-finding, diagnostic and repair skills
  • Experience with installation, commissioning and start-up of refrigeration and HVAC systems, and the ability to read equipment specifications and technical drawings
  • Able to work alone and own the jobs you are given
  • Good with customers and a clear communicator, with workmanship that has been consistently professional
  • Willing to be on an on-call roster
  • Commitment to safe work and professional behaviour on site
  • Ready to provide supporting evidence for your qualifications and the relevant jobs you have held
