Head Chef

An established hospitality venue needs a Head Chef who is skilled in the kitchen and sharp on the commercial side.

This is a senior position for an experienced chef with strong leadership, operational and financial management skills. Your job: oversee daily kitchen performance, develop your team, keep food quality up and manage costs, while making sure the kitchen runs safely and efficiently.

You will also have influence over menus, kitchen systems and the future direction of the culinary offering. One word of caution: a genuine employer will never ask you to pay for a job offer.

Key Responsibilities

  • Comply with food safety and HACCP requirements
  • Keep workplace health and safety standards in place
  • Take overall charge of daily kitchen operations
  • Manage how the kitchen performs across all service periods
  • Lead the kitchen team and organise daily staffing
  • Keep food production consistent and to a high standard, including portion control and presentation
  • Build and implement efficient kitchen systems, with standard recipes and operating procedures
  • Handle food purchasing and supplier relationships
  • Watch inventory levels, stock movement, rotation and ordering
  • Control food costs and reduce unnecessary waste
  • Manage labour costs and rosters
  • Track budgets and financial targets
  • Create and update menus and seasonal offerings, making sure food quality standards hold
  • Train and mentor kitchen staff
  • Recruit and onboard new team members
  • Manage performance and run development reviews

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Proven experience as a Head Chef or Senior Sous Chef
  • Experience running a busy restaurant kitchen
  • Strong ability in operational and financial management
  • Demonstrated experience controlling food costs and kitchen labour costs
  • Strong skills in leading a team and managing staff
  • Experience developing and implementing kitchen systems
  • Able to manage suppliers and purchasing
  • Excellent knowledge of food safety and HACCP principles
  • Strong understanding of modern Australian cuisine
  • Able to develop menus that are high quality and commercially viable
  • Excellent problem-solving, organisational and communication skills
  • Able to maintain high standards under pressure
  • Suitable international candidates may be eligible for visa sponsorship
