Field Service Technician wanted in Waipa, Waikato. The employer is a leading agricultural machinery service business, and the role is about diagnosing faults, repairing complex machinery and getting essential equipment back to work.
You will service modern agricultural equipment for farmers and rural contractors, from routine jobs to complex breakdowns, while dealing directly with customers. Proven experience in diesel, heavy automotive or agricultural machinery is needed, and your qualifications and practical skills must be verifiable. You will have access to ongoing manufacturer and technical training as machinery becomes more advanced and electronically controlled.

Key Responsibilities
- Respond to machinery breakdowns at customer sites and carry out effective repairs in the field
- Inspect agricultural machinery and pinpoint mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronic faults accurately
- Run detailed diagnostics with specialist electronic and manufacturer-approved equipment, analysing each technical problem systematically to choose the right repair
- Service, maintain and repair tractors and farm machinery, including preventative maintenance
- Work on modern tractors, harvesting equipment and specialised agricultural machines
- Repair safely and efficiently to a high standard, then test the machine to confirm the fault is properly resolved
- Keep accurate service records, job reports and technical documentation
- Explain repair findings and recommendations clearly to customers and keep good working relationships with farmers, contractors and other users
- Manage field service jobs professionally with minimal supervision
- Work with fellow technicians and support staff to solve complex technical issues
- Complete ongoing training to stay sharp on modern agricultural machinery systems
- Be part of the on-call and breakdown response roster when required
Requirements & Eligibility
- Qualification in Diesel Mechanics, Heavy Automotive Engineering or Heavy Machinery that is relevant to the role
- NZQF Level 4 or higher, or an equivalent overseas qualification that is recognised
- Proven, practical experience on agricultural tractors or heavy machinery
- Can demonstrate diagnosis and repair of mechanical systems, with strong fault-finding on hydraulic, electrical and electronic systems
- Experience with electronic diagnostic equipment and an understanding of modern agricultural machinery and electronically controlled systems
- Highly desirable: previous field service experience
- Agricultural machinery dealership experience: advantageous
- Forage harvester experience is an advantage but not mandatory
- Strong customer service and communication; comfortable working independently in field environments facing customers
- Works professionally and carefully, with an eye for detail and workmanship, and is reliable about safety, documentation and service standards
- Willing to take on ongoing technical training
- Able to take part in an on-call service roster
- Overseas applicants must be able to provide evidence of relevant qualifications and practical experience
