Farming Manager

The package on offer: approximately $150,000 base salary, a new dual-cab vehicle, five-bedroom on-farm accommodation and the chance to earn performance-based bonuses. In return, the business needs a senior agricultural leader whose large-scale farming background is strong and can be verified.
You will be in charge of cropping, pasture, fodder and irrigation activities and will help decide where the farming operation goes next. Results matter: your experience is expected to deliver measurable improvements in productivity, land use, efficiency and financial performance.
Expect real autonomy, with support from an established agricultural business and experienced farming, agronomy and livestock teams. Applicants need practical agricultural knowledge as well as leadership, planning and sound commercial judgement.
Key Responsibilities
- Answer for operational performance and financial outcomes, and push a culture built on safety, accountability and continuous improvement
- Head the farming operation across extensive properties
- Supervise and grow the skills of farm supervisors, overseers and machinery operators
- Prepare plans for each season that reflect production targets, the resources on hand and conditions on the farm
- Take charge of cropping, pasture, irrigation and fodder programs
- Control the annual budget, forecasts, expenditure and capital spend, and monitor productivity, crop and pasture outcomes and running costs
- Oversee what is grown: oats, wheat, barley, vetch and irrigated sorghum
- Work with agronomists on better soil health, crop performance and pasture establishment, and keep land management and soil improvement sustainable
- Line up fodder needs with the broader feed and livestock operations
- Evaluate and carry out initiatives that improve land and productivity
- Lead capital projects aimed at greater efficiency and long-term asset value
- Put GPS, precision agriculture and digital farm-management technology to work
- Make planning and agricultural decisions based on operational data
- Handle workforce planning, staff training, performance and development
- Deal with contractors, suppliers and service providers in agriculture
- Keep communication clear with internal agricultural and operational teams
Requirements & Eligibility
- Current driver's licence required
- Demonstrated senior-level background running farming or agricultural operations
- Proven record managing mixed farming, livestock or cropping environments
- Strong practical knowledge of production systems used in large-scale agriculture
- Demonstrated grasp of weed control, chemical use and agronomy, plus hands-on use of GPS, precision agriculture and digital farm-management systems
- Experience with cost management, production planning, forecasting and farm budgets
- Strong knowledge of farm machinery and modern farming methods
- Demonstrated ability to build and lead agricultural teams
- Strong judgement in commercial and operational decisions, backed by a history of measurable results and responsible farm management that you can demonstrate
- Strong capability in planning, communication and managing stakeholders
- A tertiary qualification in Agriculture, Agribusiness or a related area is highly regarded
- ChemCert or an equivalent qualification is advantageous
- An HR or MC licence is advantageous
- Able to meet the Australian employment and visa requirements that apply
