Experienced Agricultural Diesel Mechanic

This is a permanent full-time position for a skilled Agricultural Diesel Mechanic with an established agricultural machinery operation in Western Australia.

What the job involves: servicing and repairing modern farm equipment, in the workshop and out in the field. Machines must stay dependable through tough planting and harvest periods, so your reliability and technical expertise feed straight into the farming operations you support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Attend breakdowns and handle field repairs when farming periods get busy
  • Service, maintain and repair agricultural diesel machinery
  • Work on tractors, harvesters, headers, sprayers, seeders and other farm machines
  • Find mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronic faults
  • Diagnose and fix hydraulic and electrical systems
  • Repair and troubleshoot diesel engines, transmissions and drivelines
  • Operate modern diagnostic equipment and electronic scan tools
  • Carry out preventative maintenance so machinery stays reliable
  • Inspect equipment to pick up developing faults before they lead to major downtime
  • Finish workshop and field mechanical jobs efficiently, fabricating, modifying or adapting components where required
  • Keep accurate maintenance and service records
  • Stick to established safety, environmental and quality procedures, and communicate clearly with colleagues, customers and other stakeholders
  • Keep machines ready through planting and harvest seasons and take part in seasonal on-call duties where necessary

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Minimum 5 years of mechanical work gained after your trade
  • You need a recognised trade qualification in Heavy Diesel Mechanics, Mobile Plant Technology or an equivalent discipline
  • Essential: proven agricultural machinery experience, including hands-on work on tractors, combines, headers, sprayers or related farm equipment
  • Highly regarded: machinery experience from broadacre cropping, livestock or mixed farming
  • Strong mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and diagnostic fault-finding ability, with the capacity to identify faults and complete repairs independently
  • At ease in workshop settings and in outdoor rural environments
  • Essential: fluent English communication
  • Current driver's licence (HR licence advantageous)
  • Strong work ethic, reliability and a professional attitude, plus evidence of your qualifications and relevant employment experience
  • Must satisfy applicable Australian employment and visa requirements; eligible overseas candidates can access 482 visa sponsorship
