Electical Field Service Technician

If you are an electrician who prefers hunting down faults to repeating the same installations, read on. A technical service company in Australia wants an Electrician / Electrical Field Service Technician to look after clients who operate commercial catering and foodservice equipment.

The job in simple terms: find out what went wrong with a failed machine, trace the electrical cause and put it right at the client's location. Your week will mix site visits with fault diagnosis, repair work, testing, commissioning and technical advice on many kinds of commercial equipment, all while gaining specialised industry experience in Australia within a professional service team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Stick to electrical safety rules and the workplace's set procedures on every job
  • Investigate failures in commercial catering and foodservice equipment, identify electrical faults and carry out servicing and repairs
  • Run systematic diagnostics and troubleshooting, using electrical testing instruments on components and circuits
  • Replace or repair defective electrical components, and complete wiring and equipment modifications where appropriately licensed
  • Go out to client sites for breakdown call-outs and planned servicing
  • Test equipment once repaired and confirm that it operates safely
  • Set up and commission newly supplied commercial equipment
  • Support customers and other service personnel technically, including answering troubleshooting enquiries by telephone and email
  • Assist with warranty assessments and service-related investigations, following each job from initial diagnosis to completion
  • Work with manufacturers and suppliers on technical issues, and source and organise the parts and spares that repairs require
  • Help put equipment together and prepare its electrics, and lend a hand in the workshop and warehouse when needed
  • Log every finished service job, repair and part used clearly
  • Keep relationships with customers professional while representing the service team

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Current Australian driver's licence or equivalent
  • Recognised trade qualification as an electrician, plus a relevant electrical licence or eligibility to get the required licensing
  • Track record of hands-on electrical fault finding and diagnostic work
  • Sound grasp of how electrical circuits, wiring, controls and components work
  • Has repaired and serviced electrical equipment before, and can demonstrate it
  • Background with commercial, industrial, appliance or electro-mechanical equipment
  • Commercial kitchen or foodservice equipment experience: advantageous
  • Past work as a field service or mobile technician: highly regarded
  • Can track down and fix technical faults without supervision, using strong analytical and practical problem-solving skills
  • Communicates professionally, serves customers well and cooperates effectively with technicians, contractors, suppliers and manufacturers
  • Well organised, with good job-management skills
  • Dependable, and serious about safety and quality
  • Gas-related experience or licensing: advantageous. Forklift experience or licence: advantageous
  • Can back up qualifications and relevant work experience with genuine supporting evidence
