Duty Manager

This is a senior shift-leadership job in a busy licensed hospitality operation in the Northern Territory, Australia. The employer wants an experienced Duty Manager who will own venue operations, lead frontline staff and see that each shift is run safely, efficiently and professionally.

The work mixes people leadership, customer service, compliance, financial controls and daily operational decisions. On your rostered shifts you are the most senior contact, backing the hospitality, gaming and functions teams and dealing with customer needs and operational problems as they arise.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee cash handling, tills, floats, safe balances and gaming transactions, and close each shift with correct reconciliations and financial handovers
  • Run the whole venue on your rostered shifts, from opening procedures through to closing
  • Lead food and beverage, gaming and functions staff with direction, supervision and support
  • Set daily duties, keep staffing levels right, and assist with rosters, training, development and performance management
  • Uphold strong customer service and keep the venue well presented
  • Make sure the venue complies with liquor, gaming, responsible gambling, food safety and workplace safety rules
  • Manage security procedures, keys and restricted-access areas, and respond correctly to security and incident situations
  • Deal with customer complaints and resolve operational or behavioural issues
  • Back up functions, entertainment and promotional events
  • Keep checks on stock levels, equipment, cleaning and maintenance
  • Prepare accurate shift, incident and operational reports
  • Apply workplace policies, spot ways to improve venue performance, and promote a safe, professional and positive workplace

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Current NT Responsible Service of Alcohol certification, plus current Responsible Service of Gambling training or willingness to complete the required training
  • NT Gaming Machine Manager licence preferred; otherwise, willingness and eligibility to obtain the licence
  • Qualification route: a relevant AQF Diploma-level qualification or equivalent, together with at least one year of relevant full-time-equivalent experience
  • Experience route: at least three years of relevant full-time-equivalent experience in hospitality, hotel or licensed-club management
  • Proven record of leading and supervising hospitality employees, and previous experience in a licensed venue environment
  • You should understand how gaming and licensed hospitality operations work
  • Strong cash-handling and reconciliation experience, with a sound understanding of venue security and operational controls
  • Strong leadership and team-management capability
  • Excellent skills in handling customers and resolving conflict, plus good written communication and reports
  • Available for shifts on evenings, weekends and public holidays
  • Able to fulfil relevant licensing, probity and employment requirements
  • Overseas candidates must meet the applicable criteria for qualifications, experience, English-language ability and visas
  • Visa sponsorship may be offered to suitably qualified candidates. This includes eligible applicants who may qualify under an NT DAMA pathway, subject to all required approvals
