Diesel Motor Mechanic

Key Responsibilities

Track down and resolve faults in diesel engines and heavy vehicles, investigating mechanical, hydraulic and electrical issues with diagnostic tools and software
Service, repair and maintain diesel-powered systems
Carry out scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance programs
Inspect heavy vehicles and identify what maintenance or repairs they need, then complete those repairs efficiently and professionally
Keep job sheets, service records and maintenance documents accurate and up to date
Follow workshop procedures and health and safety requirements, and keep your workspace clean, organised and safe
Communicate clearly with colleagues on repairs, faults and maintenance needs
Stay safe whether you are in the workshop or working outdoors

Requirements & Eligibility

Minimum 2 years of hands-on heavy vehicle servicing and repair experience
A mechanical qualification that is relevant and/or industry experience you can prove
Full Class 1 driver's licence or equivalent
Class 4 driver's licence is advantageous
Strong practical knowledge of diesel engines and heavy vehicle systems
Proven fault-finding ability on mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems
Hands-on use of diagnostic equipment and software
Strong communication and problem-solving skills, and a reliable, safety-conscious, professional approach
Ability to complete service documentation and keep accurate records
Physical capability for manual mechanical duties
Willingness to undergo pre-employment drug and alcohol testing, and ability to complete a pre-employment medical assessment
Ability to pass a Ministry of Justice (MOJ) check and to hand over genuine, verifiable identity, employment and qualification documents
Existing New Zealand work rights or eligibility for employer-sponsored work authorisation
