Position: Diesel Fitter / Heavy Plant Mechanic with a well-established construction and engineering business in Queensland. Purpose: keep a diverse fleet of construction and mobile plant equipment reliable.

You need a genuine, provable history with heavy machinery, the ability to diagnose complex faults and the standards to finish repairs properly. The work goes beyond routine workshop servicing, covering specialised plant and responses to equipment problems out in the field.

Key Responsibilities

Diagnose and repair hydraulic faults and carry out electrical fault finding on heavy mobile equipment
Service and maintain a diverse fleet of heavy construction and mobile plant
Deliver scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance programs
Investigate mechanical faults and decide on suitable repair solutions
Work on excavators, cranes, piling rigs and associated machinery
Attend breakdowns in the field, prioritising them and completing field-service work efficiently to restore equipment to operation
Carry out onsite inspections to identify maintenance or repair needs
Replace failed, damaged or worn mechanical and hydraulic components using appropriate workshop tools and diagnostic equipment
Test each machine after repairs to confirm it operates safely and reliably
Document all servicing, repairs, inspections and component replacements
Handle remote or onsite equipment issues independently
Maintain high standards of housekeeping, safety and workshop practice, following all relevant workplace health and safety procedures

Requirements & Eligibility

Employer sponsorship is available to eligible overseas applicants
A recognised trade qualification in Diesel Fitting, Heavy Plant Mechanic, Mobile Plant Mechanic or equivalent
Industry experience you can demonstrate in repairing and maintaining heavy mobile plant
Solid background in construction, earthmoving or specialised heavy equipment
Practical knowledge of excavators, cranes, piling rigs or comparable machines
High-level mechanical fault-finding and diagnostic skills
Sound understanding of hydraulic systems and component repair
Electrical diagnostics experience on mobile plant
Previous field-service or breakdown response work
Ability to troubleshoot and complete repairs without needing constant supervision
Comfortable switching between workshop and construction-site environments
Current Australian driver's licence, or relevant eligibility to obtain one
Strong safety awareness, professional work practices and a reliable, adaptable, self-motivated approach
Ability to produce evidence of relevant qualifications and professional experience
Experience with CAT, Komatsu, Hitachi, Liebherr, Tadano, Grove, Franna, Terex or comparable equipment is advantageous
