Construction Technician/Assistant

Key Responsibilities

  • Spot hazards, defects or issues on site and report them to supervisors, following health and safety procedures and PPE standards
  • Assist experienced tradespeople and supervisors on residential, commercial and infrastructure projects
  • Organise materials, tools and equipment to prepare worksites, keep working areas clean and remove construction waste
  • Help with concrete preparation, mixing, pouring, spreading and finishing
  • Back up carpentry, bricklaying, roofing, flooring, plastering, painting, glazing, plumbing and drainage activities
  • Carry out site preparation: excavation, trenching, levelling and material handling
  • Assist with installing pipes, fittings, drainage components and construction systems, including heating, cooling and ventilation pathways
  • Measure, cut, secure and position steel bars, mesh and other reinforcing materials
  • Operate hand tools and basic power tools safely as the site requires
  • Help put up temporary site structures and safety barriers and prepare work areas
  • Work with site teams to hit project deadlines and quality expectations
  • Take on other construction support tasks as required

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Minimum 12 months of construction industry experience, with proven practical exposure and the ability to demonstrate genuine construction skills and previous site responsibilities
  • Physical capability for manual work in demanding environments, plus a strong understanding of safe work practices and site procedures
  • Experience with basic hand tools and power tools
  • Team player who follows supervisors' instructions
  • Reliable attendance, positive attitude and willingness to contribute
  • Commitment to learning New Zealand construction standards and workplace expectations
  • Candidates with verified work experience and supporting employment history are encouraged to apply
