CNC Operator /Craftsman

A modern production workshop in the Wellington region needs a CNC Joiner / Cabinetmaker who can bring proven skills and keep developing as a specialist. The work is the manufacture of plywood kitchens, cabinetry and furniture, combining traditional joinery with CNC production and Lean manufacturing systems.
Qualifications and years on a CV are not the whole story. The employer values accuracy, consistency, accountability and quality work delivered every day, from someone hands-on, dependable, curious and motivated to improve. Experience gained overseas or in New Zealand is fine, provided you can demonstrate genuine capability and the right work approach.
Key Responsibilities
- Stick strictly to the workshop's production, safety and quality procedures
- Set up and run CNC machines making cabinetry and furniture
- Get components ready and machine each one precisely to the specs
- Put together cabinets and furniture pieces and complete the finishing
- Check every finished job for accuracy and quality
- Flag problems on the production floor and help sort them out
- Deliver the same standard of workmanship from start to finish of production
- Go out on installation jobs when needed
- Leave the workshop clean, orderly and efficient
- Work to Lean manufacturing and 3S principles, pointing out where processes can improve and waste can be cut
- Pull your weight as a member of the production team
- Be accountable for getting assigned work done to the standard required
- Learn more about CNC equipment and production systems, taking part in training and continuous-improvement activities
- Back the team in keeping productivity and workmanship high
Requirements & Eligibility
- Current New Zealand manual driver's licence, and you can drive a long-wheelbase manual van
- Hands-on work history in joinery, cabinetmaking, CNC machining or furniture manufacturing
- Track record of accurate, high-quality output
- Strong eye for detail and dependable, steady work habits
- Good practical skills and the ability to solve problems
- Can get on with the job with limited supervision
- Ready to pick up new equipment, systems and processes
- Strong personal accountability and sense of responsibility, taking feedback and professional development positively
- HOMAG, WoodWOP, IMOS or other CNC experience is advantageous
- Trade experience gained overseas is welcome
- New Zealand trade experience is not mandatory
- Prepared to complete required Lean training before any practical trial
- Visa sponsorship may be considered for eligible applicants from overseas
