CNC Machine Operator / Machinist

A well-established precision engineering company that supplies high-quality machining solutions to many industries is hiring an experienced CNC Machinist. This is not repetitive production machining; the work is varied and technically demanding.

The role in brief:

  • Independent setup, proving and operation of CNC milling machines
  • Making and repairing precision-engineered components, from precision parts to large industrial equipment
  • One-off and small-batch projects on advanced CNC machining centres

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect work during production to confirm quality and accuracy
  • Carry out independent setup, proving and operation of CNC milling machines
  • Interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications correctly
  • Machine precision components that match engineering drawings and the specified tolerances
  • Pick suitable tooling, fixtures and workholding solutions
  • Complete machine setups and adjustments, and verify each program
  • Produce one-off and small-batch components for a range of engineering projects
  • Find and fix machining issues quickly so productivity is maximised
  • Hold high standards of precision, workmanship and safety, with equipment and work areas kept clean and organised
  • Work with the production team to meet deadlines, and support continuous improvement and efficient manufacturing

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Relevant trade qualification or equivalent industry experience: highly regarded
  • Proven background as a CNC Machinist with strong CNC milling experience
  • Capable of setting up, proving and operating CNC milling machines independently
  • Hands-on experience with multi-axis CNC machining centres in precision engineering
  • Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Sound knowledge of machining processes, cutting tools and tolerances
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving, high attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work
  • Efficient in a high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environment
  • Positive attitude, effective teamwork and commitment to workplace health and safety practices
