Key Responsibilities
- Take day-to-day charge of an assigned kitchen section and its preparation
- Show initiative in your section while taking direction from the Head Chef and Sous Chef
- Cook, prepare and present dishes to a high professional standard every time
- Prepare international-style dishes that suit a professional dining environment
- Complete mise en place and service preparation in line with daily requirements
- Assist with seasonal menu preparation and daily specials
- Bring ideas and skills that support menu development and daily kitchen service
- Use ingredients responsibly, protecting quality and keeping food costs from rising unnecessarily
- Ensure food preparation areas stay clean, organised and service-ready, with high standards of personal hygiene, food safety and kitchen sanitation
- Check stock levels and report ingredient needs to senior kitchen staff
- Assist with receiving, checking and correct storage of incoming deliveries
- Rotate stock properly across chillers, freezers and dry storage
- Reduce food waste through careful preparation, storage and stock management
- Stay efficient and composed through high-volume service
- Attend team meetings, training, supplier visits and workplace development activities
- Learn about local New Zealand ingredients and produce
- Interact professionally and courteously with guests when required
- Work well with colleagues from many cultures, step in to help teammates when operations require, and complete further reasonable tasks given by senior kitchen management
Requirements & Eligibility
- Work history as a Chef de Partie or in a comparable commercial kitchen role
- Demonstrated ability to cook and prepare food to professional standards, with practical experience running an individual kitchen section
- Strong understanding of kitchen hygiene, food safety procedures and food preparation
- Ability to work independently and to contribute effectively in a team, performing consistently in a fast-paced kitchen
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Reliable, positive and professional attitude to work, with strong attention to detail and commitment to food quality
- Passion for culinary work and willingness to grow professionally
- Ability to work respectfully in a multicultural team, with good organisation and time-management skills
- Culinary qualifications that are relevant are advantageous
- Genuine, verifiable evidence of your professional experience and claimed skills
