A hospitality business in Northland, New Zealand needs a Chef with proven experience in Indian and intercontinental cuisine. This is a practical role: you should be able to show genuine experience and cook with consistency and confidence in an operating commercial kitchen.

Your day-to-day duties will cover food preparation and cooking. You will also contribute to menu development, kitchen organisation, stock control and food-quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Follow food safety, hygiene and allergen-management requirements
  • Cook and prepare intercontinental and Indian dishes, keeping the standard consistent
  • Manage food preparation and kitchen organisation every day
  • Use professional cooking techniques and methods
  • Keep taste, portion sizes, quality and presentation the same every time
  • Support menu planning, specials and the development of new dishes
  • Track ingredient usage and help keep food costs under control
  • Place supply orders and keep stock at appropriate levels
  • Work in step with other kitchen team members on food prep, keeping workflow efficient through preparation and service
  • Keep the kitchen environment clean, safe and organised
  • Guide other kitchen staff practically when required and help keep the kitchen performing consistently in busy periods

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Overseas candidates must satisfy the applicable New Zealand employment and immigration requirements
  • Demonstrated experience working as a professional Chef
  • Proven, hands-on Indian and intercontinental cooking experience
  • Strong skills in commercial kitchen work and food preparation
  • Can manage preparation and cooking responsibilities independently
  • Understands menu planning and food-cost management
  • Knows stock control and kitchen inventory procedures
  • Strong understanding of hygiene and food safety requirements, and able to maintain food quality and presentation consistently
  • Good teamwork and communication skills
  • Reliable, organised and willing to work evenings and weekends
  • Relevant cookery or hospitality qualification is advantageous
  • Café or restaurant experience is advantageous
  • Experience developing specials and menu items is advantageous
  • Experience supervising, guiding or training kitchen staff is advantageous
