Position: Chef de Partie. Setting: a busy, professional kitchen team in South Australia.

The successful chef will run an allocated section and prepare a range of high-quality restaurant dishes. Expect premium steaks, ribs, grilled meats, burgers and pizzas, along with freshly prepared accompaniments.

The employer wants a motivated chef who can work independently and also contribute positively to a strong team. Go through the requirements one by one before you apply, and never pay anyone who promises you a job offer.

Key Responsibilities

Stick strictly to food safety, hygiene and HACCP procedures
Own the kitchen section you are given
Do the daily prep: ingredients ready, mise en place done
Cook and plate each dish so it meets the set quality standard
Handle the steaks, ribs and grilled meats
Turn out burgers, pizzas, sauces, sides and everything else on the menu
Make sure flavour, portion size and plating never vary
Keep checking temperatures and how food is cooking
Help rotate stock, keep inventory in order, and take in and store deliveries of food and kitchen supplies the right way
Spot where food is being wasted and cut it down
Leave your workstation clean, in order and set for service
Give junior kitchen staff a hand and direction when they need it
Talk clearly with the kitchen crew and front-of-house, and help out on new dishes and daily specials

Requirements & Eligibility

Minimum 1 year of relevant commercial kitchen experience
Certificate III or IV in Commercial Cookery, or a qualification of equal standing
You have worked as a Chef de Partie, Chef or in a comparable position
Strong cooking ability across many kitchen sections
Grill and meat preparation experience is preferred
You know HACCP and the safety rules of commercial kitchens
You deliver under the pressure of busy service
Sharp, strong attention to detail
Good at communicating
Good at working in a team
Ready to work a rotating hospitality roster
