Experienced Chef needed for a full-time role in the Pilbara, Western Australia. This is for someone with genuine industry experience, not a beginner.
Great chefs are judged on experience, consistency, professionalism and how they perform when the kitchen is under pressure, not just on what they cook. You should understand the demands of professional service and take pride in delivering food to a consistently high standard.
The role also involves contributing to team development and supporting apprentices while you build on your own capabilities, and for the right candidate it can be a pathway to further career development in Australia. Chefs from Nigeria and elsewhere should be ready to prove their kitchen history.
Key Responsibilities
- Support training and development for junior chefs and apprentices
- Prepare and cook dishes that meet established quality standards
- Turn out consistent à la carte food in busy service periods
- Run food preparation and kitchen tasks efficiently
- Hold presentation and portion control to high standards
- Comply with food safety, hygiene and workplace health requirements and keep the kitchen organised, clean and safe
- Work across different kitchen sections effectively
- Use initiative and keep kitchen operations going when required
- Communicate clearly with the kitchen and front-of-house teams
- Help with stock preparation and general kitchen operations
- Help maintain a positive, professional team culture
- Find opportunities to improve kitchen efficiency and food quality
Requirements & Eligibility
- Willingness to relocate to Western Australia
- Minimum 3 years working in professional kitchens
- Prior experience as a Chef or in a similar culinary position
- Demonstrated experience in à la carte cuisine preparation
- Strong hands-on cooking and food prep skills
- Understanding of professional standards for food safety and hygiene
- Ability to work independently in a busy kitchen and to show reliable, consistent kitchen performance
- Strong teamwork and communication abilities
- A professional attitude and commitment to quality
- Experience mentoring or supporting junior kitchen staff is advantageous
- Prepared to work day, evening and overnight shifts
- Proficient English language skills
- Preferred: Australian work rights
