Experienced floor layers and newcomers to the trade both have a way in here. An established flooring business in Christchurch, New Zealand is expanding and is hiring carpet and flooring installers, seniors who can lead jobs, and motivated people who want to learn. Apprentices can apply too, and more than one candidate may get an offer.
You would fit floors in homes and light commercial premises across Christchurch and the surrounding area. The positions are permanent and full-time: at least 37.5 hours a week, typically 40 to 42, mostly Monday to Friday with occasional additional hours. A senior runs a job from site arrival to completion and supports another installer or small crew. Trainees work beside experienced installers.

Key Responsibilities
- Study the job information and check materials, quantities and installation requirements before work begins.
- Measure and mark out accurately, then cut and fit the flooring.
- Install carpet and underlay with the right trims and accessories.
- Handle sheet vinyl and vinyl plank where you have been trained and are competent.
- Rip out the existing flooring and get it disposed of.
- Smooth, grind and level floors as part of preparation where needed.
- Raise any access, preparation, scheduling or site-condition issue you identify.
- Deliver to quality standards and leave each completed job clean and tidy.
- Deal professionally with customers, builders, site managers and suppliers.
- Complete timesheets and job paperwork accurately.
- Safely load, unload and transport materials, tools and equipment, maintain your kit and follow workplace health and safety requirements.
Requirements & Eligibility
- Reliability, punctuality and real pride in your work, plus good communication and a professional approach with customers.
- You work productively in a team and are willing to follow instructions, learn and improve.
- You can handle flooring materials safely and carry out the physical duties.
- A full driver licence for senior installers; for junior and trainee applicants a licence is preferred, with reliable transport to the agreed meeting point essential.
- Senior candidates bring strong carpet installation skills, can run jobs independently and have the confidence to organise and support another installer or a small crew; sheet vinyl and vinyl plank experience is highly valued.
- For trainees no previous flooring experience is required, but reliability, a willingness to learn, practical interest and a good attitude to work are essential.
