Carpenter

Trade · West Melbourne, Melbourne VIC, Australia · Full-Time · $800,000/yr

A genuine, established construction business in Victoria needs a skilled Carpenter for residential and commercial building work in West Melbourne.

This is a hands-on trade position. You will be judged on real carpentry ability, accurate installation and the standard of what you build, not on words alone. The work covers structural timber framing, flooring, external works, fittings and repairs, so you must be able to follow plans, take precise measurements and get reliable results on site.

A word of caution: a genuine employer will never ask you to pay for a job offer.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work safely and efficiently with hand tools, power tools and construction equipment
  • Study architectural and construction drawings to plan each carpentry task
  • Take dimensions, material needs and work sequences from the project specifications
  • Measure, mark, cut and shape timber as well as other materials used on site
  • Frame walls and roofs, and build floor joists and sub-floor systems
  • Assemble structural timber members, making sure they are correctly aligned and securely fastened
  • Install timber window and door frames together with associated components
  • Handle external timber work such as fascia, wall cladding and roof sheathing
  • Fit prefabricated and timber fittings as the project requires, modifying components so they sit and finish accurately
  • Repair, alter and replace damaged timber structures, and build and strip temporary timber formwork for concrete works
  • Keep the quality of your workmanship high at all times and stick to site safety procedures

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Certificate III in Carpentry, or a recognised equivalent qualification
  • Proven, practical experience in residential and/or commercial construction
  • Strong working knowledge of structural carpentry and timber framing
  • A track record in general carpentry, installation and repair work
  • Competent with carpentry hand tools, power tools and related equipment
  • Able to interpret construction drawings and specifications without errors
  • Strong skills in measuring, cutting, fitting and installation
  • Understanding of construction methods and workplace safety procedures
  • Able to work independently and also contribute effectively within a construction team
  • Prepared to satisfy the relevant Australian construction and site requirements, with visa sponsorship possible for suitably qualified candidates
