Results talk. This Business Development Manager role in Melbourne (hybrid) is for someone who can point to real commercial wins and back them up. You will run an expanding portfolio covering sponsorships, exhibitions, advertising and partnerships.
Do not expect to just look after existing accounts. You will be expected to open new markets, reach decision-makers directly and build offers that deliver genuine value to industry partners in Australia and internationally, while feeding ideas into the organisation's commercial direction.
Experienced B2B sellers with a provable history in business development, relationship management and revenue generation should apply, and be ready to show evidence.
Key Responsibilities
- Represent the organisation at stakeholder meetings, networking functions and industry events, and prospect directly through calls, meetings, roadshows and networking
- Generate and close new deals in sponsorships, exhibitions, strategic partnerships and advertising
- Research target markets, identify sectors and companies with real partnership potential, and turn them into a qualified pipeline of exhibitors, clients and partners
- Open doors with senior decision-makers and key stakeholders, bringing more domestic and international businesses into the fold
- Draft tailored proposals built around each client's objectives and audience
- Push advertising revenue higher across publications, events and digital channels
- Own every opportunity from first conversation to signed conversion, and look after client and partner relationships over the long run
- Keep CRM records accurate, logging sales activity, forecasts, opportunities and pipeline performance along with customer and prospect details
- Plan campaigns with the marketing and events teams that serve commercial targets
- Track competitors and industry trends for new openings and feed commercial insights and recommendations into future growth plans
Requirements & Eligibility
- Minimum 5 years' relevant work in business development, B2B sales or a comparable commercial job
- Proof that you have met revenue, sales or business growth targets, demonstrated and verifiable
- Strong experience generating new business and signing up prospective clients
- Proven record of building and sustaining senior stakeholder relationships
- Highly regarded: a background in events, media, consultative sales, advertising, exhibitions or sponsorship
- Strong commercial awareness, so you can recognise and assess business opportunities
- Excellent negotiation, presentation, communication and influencing skills, plus the confidence to handle outbound prospecting and engage new clients
- Able to read client needs accurately and develop commercially relevant solutions
- Strong organisational skills and discipline with CRM and pipeline management; Zoho CRM or similar CRM platform experience is highly regarded
- Able to operate independently and still add positively to a small collaborative team
- Networks or industry knowledge in HVAC&R, engineering, construction, architecture, building services or the broader built environment will be highly regarded
- You should be able to back up your experience and commercial achievements with evidence.
