A busy bakery department in Stratford, Taranaki, New Zealand, needs a capable professional to take charge of its performance, development and future direction.

Producing bakery products is only part of the job. You must be confident holding quality standards, organising production, fixing day-to-day operational problems and uniting the team around a common standard of excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Monitor compliance with food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety standards
Own the overall daily performance of the bakery department
Coordinate production so customers find products available when they need them
Maintain consistent baking quality, freshness, presentation and portion control
Apply professional bakery knowledge to improve products and processes
Develop and introduce new products in response to customer preferences and market opportunities
Plan production requirements using sales patterns and expected demand
Monitor stock, ordering, wastage and availability, and support effective labour planning and productivity
Lead bakery staff with clear direction, coaching, training and continuing support
Create a team culture built on accountability, collaboration and high standards
Remain hands-on in bakery operations and give practical support when required
Identify operational issues and put effective solutions in place
Keep the bakery environment clean, organised and customer-focused
Track customer feedback and use the insights to improve products and service
Work with wider store management towards business objectives
Contribute to budgeting, cost control and commercial performance while continually improving efficiency, product quality and customer satisfaction

Requirements & Eligibility

Willingness to relocate to Taranaki, New Zealand
Eligible overseas professionals with relevant experience may be considered for employer sponsorship
Demonstrated professional baking experience in a supermarket, retail bakery, commercial bakery or comparable food production environment
Strong practical knowledge of bakery preparation and production, with a proven ability to produce quality products consistently
Previous supervisory or management experience is advantageous
Experienced Bakers and Senior Bakers who show leadership potential are encouraged to apply

Strong interest in product development and bakery innovation
Ability to lead, coach, motivate and grow a team
Strong planning and organisational skills
Good grasp of stock control, wastage, labour utilisation and department performance
