Automotive Technician

Role: Motor Mechanic – European Vehicle Specialist, full-time, at a growing automotive workshop in South Australia.

The employer needs an experienced mechanic who is confident with advanced European vehicle systems and good at solving complex mechanical and electrical faults. Work covers servicing, diagnostics, repairs and preventative maintenance, using modern diagnostic technology and manufacturer-specific information.

Key Responsibilities

  • Run diagnostics on vehicle electrical and electronic systems with specialised scan tools
  • Pinpoint and clear faults on computerised diagnostic equipment
  • Use fault codes, wiring diagrams, technical manuals and manufacturer specs to guide each job
  • Take on European vehicles for servicing, diagnostic work and repairs, getting to the bottom of complex mechanical and electrical faults
  • Look after engines, transmissions, brakes, steering and suspension, repairing them as needed
  • Pull apart engines, transmissions and other parts to inspect them and judge their condition
  • Swap out or fix any part found damaged, worn or defective
  • Handle scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance, from oil, filter and fluid changes to other routine jobs
  • Do brake work, engine tune-ups and general mechanical repairs
  • Rebuild systems and components after the repair is finished
  • Prove each repair is safe and correct through testing, a road test and a final quality inspection
  • Log every service, repair and diagnostic job properly
  • Work safely by the workshop's procedures and never let workmanship standards slip

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Current driver's licence
  • Recognised automotive trade qualification or equivalent, and a minimum 3 years of relevant professional experience working as a Motor Mechanic
  • Proven hands-on track record with European vehicles; time on BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Volkswagen, Porsche, Volvo, Land Rover, Range Rover or similar brands is highly regarded
  • Strong at diagnosing and fault-finding on mechanical and electrical systems, using computerised automotive diagnostic gear and scan tools
  • You can work alone and confidently diagnose and repair faults
  • You understand technical documents, wiring diagrams and manufacturer procedures, and have good English communication skills
  • Committed to working full-time in South Australia
