Arborist

Simply listing climbing in an application is not enough for this role. It has to be shown through real experience, safe work practices and consistent results.
A well-established arboricultural operation in Waikato is hiring an experienced Climbing Arborist. You will work confidently at height and also contribute to ground operations and wider tree-care projects, across residential and commercial properties as well as council, utility and land-clearance work. The team is experienced, with professional equipment, ongoing training and structured health and safety practices.
Your qualifications, practical experience and capabilities will be verified during recruitment. That is a reliable process for both sides and helps match the right person to the role.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect and maintain personal protective equipment and arboricultural tools
- Use chainsaws, climbing equipment, machinery and related tools safely
- Work at height under strict safety standards
- Carry out climbing operations for tree maintenance and management
- Prune, trim and remove trees using appropriate techniques
- Perform ground crew duties when required
- Assess tree conditions and apply suitable work methods
- Work on residential, commercial, council, utility and land-clearance projects
- Coordinate with other climbing arborists and the ground crew
- Keep each site organised, efficient and professional, and comply with site safety requirements
- Attend toolbox talks, health and safety meetings and refresher training, and take on further training to build technical and industry knowledge
- Communicate professionally with team members and clients
- Work reliably as outdoor environments and project conditions change
Requirements & Eligibility
- Applicants must be able to provide appropriate evidence of qualifications and employment experience
- International applicants must meet New Zealand immigration and employment eligibility requirements
- Minimum Level 3 NZQA Arboriculture qualification or comparable industry credentials
- Minimum 2 years' practical climbing experience
- Class 1 Driver Licence, Restricted or higher
- Demonstrated experience in aerial and ground-based arboricultural work alike
- You must be able to demonstrate genuine arboricultural skills and experience
- Ability to handle physically demanding outdoor work safely
- Confidence at heights and in varied weather conditions
- Strong personal responsibility, a dependable work ethic and a positive, cooperative approach to teamwork
- Commitment to workplace health and safety, with high standards of professionalism and workmanship
- Level 3 Utility Arboriculture qualification is an advantage
- Class 2 Driver Licence is an advantage
- Relevant overseas qualifications and experience may be assessed for suitability
