An established accounting practice in Cairns is hiring an experienced Accountant to own client work and support the practice as it continues to grow.

Be honest with yourself before applying. This role needs genuine Australian public practice experience, solid technical tax knowledge and the confidence to deal one-on-one with SME clients.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare tax returns and financial statements accurately and without delay
Own the accounting and tax work for a portfolio of SME clients
Deal with Division 7A requirements, Capital Gains Tax (CGT) matters and Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) matters using practical knowledge
Develop and keep long-term professional relationships with clients
Speak directly with clients on accounting, taxation and business issues
Support clients with accounting and business advisory requirements, and contribute to advisory projects and other value-added services
Deliver work to a high professional and compliance standard, working with colleagues to keep client outcomes consistent
Grow your technical and leadership capabilities to progress into a Manager role

Requirements & Eligibility

At least 4 years of Australian Public Practice experience
CA or CPA qualified, or nearly finished with the qualification
Strong hands-on background in Australian tax compliance
Demonstrated work with SME clients
Proven ability to handle client relationships independently
Practical knowledge of Division 7A, CGT and FBT
Excellent written and verbal communication along with strong professional presentation and interpersonal skills
High attention to detail, backed by a reliable work ethic and professional attitude
Shown willingness to learn and accept more responsibility, and the ability to work well in a collaborative accounting environment
