Furniture Upholsterer needed in Waitakere City, Auckland. The employer is a long-established furniture restoration and recovering business, and it wants someone whose practical skills are backed by genuine industry experience.
Do not apply expecting extensive training. This is a hands-on position for a person who already understands upholstery and can confidently work on different furniture pieces. You will need a proven work history, strong attention to detail and the physical capability for workshop-based recovering.
Hours are 40 per week, Monday to Friday, plus overtime when the workload increases. Your experience must be verifiable. Never pay anyone who promises to secure this job for you.
Key Responsibilities
- Keep the workshop clean, safe and organised, and use upholstery tools, machinery and equipment safely
- Upholster and recover antique, traditional and contemporary pieces
- Complete restoration and recovering jobs to a professional standard
- Handle upholstery projects independently with minimal assistance, selecting the right method for each furniture type
- Prepare, position and move furniture frames in production and lift them onto and off benches
- Assist when furniture is loaded and unloaded for transport
- Deliver a high standard of finish, accuracy and workmanship
- Coordinate with colleagues who do cutting, sewing and frame construction
- Work 40 hours each week, Monday to Friday
- Cover overtime when workload increases
Requirements & Eligibility
- Must meet applicable requirements to be considered for sponsorship
- At least 5 years of professional furniture upholstery experience
- Proven hands-on experience across a range of furniture styles, with a strong practical grasp of recovering and restoration techniques
- Able to complete upholstery work with limited supervision and operate the relevant tools and equipment safely
- Physically capable of lifting and handling furniture frames
- Strong attention to detail and consistent finishing
- Reliable, able to maintain full-time hours and willing to work overtime when the business requires
- Upholstery experience that can be verified
- Cutting and sewing skills are an advantage
- Furniture frame-making experience is an advantage
