Diesel Motor Mechanic

Heavy Vehicle Diesel Mechanic needed. This opportunity is for an experienced mechanic with strong technical and diagnostic skills.

The work covers heavy vehicles, diesel engines, hydraulic systems and electrical components, in a professional and safety-focused environment.

Know the checks before you apply: pre-employment drug and alcohol testing, a medical assessment and a Ministry of Justice check must all be passed, and you need existing New Zealand work rights or eligibility for an AEWV. Make sure you meet these conditions before you send your application.

Key Responsibilities

Comply with health and safety requirements
Service and maintain heavy diesel vehicles
Repair diesel engines and mechanical components
Diagnose complex mechanical faults, identify issues and carry out effective repairs
Troubleshoot hydraulic systems
Diagnose electrical faults and repair them
Carry out preventative maintenance, scheduled servicing and inspections
Operate diagnostic equipment and software for vehicles
Document maintenance accurately and record all completed repairs and servicing
Keep the work environment professional and organised, whether in the workshop or outdoors

Requirements & Eligibility

Minimum 2 years' heavy vehicle diesel mechanic experience
Full Class 1 driver's licence
Class 4 licence highly regarded
Strong diesel mechanical knowledge with excellent fault-finding and diagnostic skills
Experience working on hydraulic and vehicle electrical systems
Strong communicator who can work independently or as part of a team
Puts safety first
Competent with diagnostic software and tools
Good record-keeping and documentation skills
Physically fit for mechanical work, including in workshop and outdoor conditions
You must successfully complete pre-employment drug and alcohol testing
You must successfully complete a medical assessment
You must pass a Ministry of Justice check
Existing New Zealand work rights are required, or you must be eligible for AEWV
